Zettex EPDM Primer P40 – The essential preparation for watertight liner seams

When constructing a garden pond, koi pond, or stream, the EPDM pond liner seams must be absolutely watertight to withstand permanent water pressure. To securely join two liners, a seam tape is used in combination with a primer.

⚠️ Please note: The primer itself is not an adhesive and will not bond the liners together without additional accessories. It is the technically necessary counterpart to the seam tape.

Since EPDM pond liners are extremely repellent, a pure adhesive tape without pre-treatment would eventually fail underwater. The Zettex P40 Primer activates the liner surface in the seam area. Only through this intermediate step can the seam tape or splice tape form a rock-solid, watertight unit with the liner. Those who forgo the primer risk creeping water loss into the soil at the seams.

Effortless application for a durable result You don't need any specialized knowledge for the application: simply shake the primer well and rub it thinly onto the clean and dry liner. After 10 to 15 minutes, the liquid has flashed off. Immediately afterward, apply the matching seam tape wrinkle-free and press it firmly. For your pond project, rely on the secure system combination of primer and tape, which is also standard in professional pond construction.

How to apply the primer correctly:

  1. Preparation:Shake the can thoroughly before use and stir briefly every 15 to 20 minutes during application. Never dilute!
  2. Application:The surface must be dry, clean and grease-free. Apply the primer with a scouring pad or sandpaper.
  3. Flash-off time:Allow the primer 10 to 15 minutes to dry. Only apply the seam tape when it has completely flashed off.
  4. Important notes:Do not smoke during application. Do not use on PVC films, EPS or XPS insulation. Do not use as a cleaner.
